New 2008 Class Registration rules:
All registrations must have at least 20% deposit on registration for a spot in class to be held. Deposits do not cover the cost of the books. Students are required to get their own books before the first day of class.
EMT-Basic
Class covers 42 sessions of both evening and some Saturday full days. The purpose of Saturday classes is to shorten the calendar length of the class. These classes break down to 24 lectures and 18 lab sessions. At the completion of this course the students that meet the state minimal requirements will be allowed to take the Rhode Island state Licensure test to become certified EMT-Basics.
Students will learn Skills in Basic Life Support, Respiratory Emergencies, Trauma Emergencies, vehicle extrication, and a new section on Terrorism awareness as it pertains to EMS . There will also be sections on medication administration, use of Automated External Defibrillators, and ambulance operations. Students will also be required to document 8 hours of observation time in a hospital Emergency Room. Students are responsible for all transportation to and from all classes. Students must obtain a minimum 70% grade point average on all quizzes, the mid-term exam, and final exam to be able to attend the state licensure exam.
Lab sessions will have the students involved with hands on practice of learned skills with experienced EMS Instructors and their fellow students. Students shall be responsible to bring with them a working wrist watch as this piece of equipment is an essential piece of your work uniform once you pass your licensure exam and begin working as a Rhode Island EMT.
There will be a 10 student minimum to run the EMT – B program. If there is not more than 10 students, those that have given tuition will have the option of a reimbursement or to be added to the next EMT – B Session.

Emt-Cardiac (Includes IV Pump Training, Transcutaneous Pacing, Pharmacology updates, Major Incident Protocol Changes, AHA ACLS course)
Pre-req. EMT Basic and current CPR certified. Program presented in 44 classes, 22 lecture and 22 lab sessions. Lectures are on Monday nights with lab sessions held twice a week on Wednesday and repeated on Thursday nights. This splitting of the class on 2 lab nights enables the instructors to concentrate on smaller groups and deliver more intently on skills necessary in the practice of EMT Cardiacs. At the completion of the program, those students that have successfully completed the minimal state requirements will be allowed to then take the Rhode Island state licensure exam to become a certified Rhode Island Emergency Medical Technician – Cardiac.
Students will learn Skills in Advanced Life Support, Respiratory Emergencies, Trauma Emergencies, Intravenous Therapy, EKG Analysis, Emergency Cardiac Pharmacology just to name a few. Students will be required to document 12 Successful IV Starts under the supervision of Emergency Room Nurses, and will complete at least 10 hours of observation ‘Ride along' with approved ALS Rescue units in the field, before course completion. Students are responsible for all transportation to and from all classes, and observation times. Students must maintain a minimum 70% GPA on all quizzes, Modular exams, Mid-term Exam and Final Exam to be able to attend the state licensure exam.
There will be a 10 student minimum to run the EMT-C Class. If there are not 10 or more students registered for the class, the students that have provided tuition will have the option of reimbursement or to be added to the next Cardiac program.

Emt Basic & Cardiac Refreshers
Course is held in 15 session's total, 11 for Basics, 15 for Cardiacs. The program follows the state required standards for recertification at a student's licensure level. Those students meeting the required minimum state standards students will receive certifications of completion. All Rhode Island EMT's are required to attend a refresher course for recertification of licensure. There will be a 10 student minimum to run the EMT- R Class. If there are not 10 or more students registered for the class, the students that have provided tuition will have the option of reimbursement or to be added to the next EMT - R program.

EOA/MAST Updates
This 1 four (4) hour course is held to allow the student whom is wishing to challenge the Rhode Island licensure exam through reciprocity from another state. The course covers the use of the Esophageal Obturator Airway, and the use of Military Anti -Shock Trousers.
At successful completion of the course the student will receive a certificate to forward to the state verifying the course completion.
There will be a 4 student minimum to run the EOA – Mast Update Class. If there are not 4 or more students registered for the class, the students that have provided tuition will have the option of reimbursement or to be added to the next EOA-Mast program.

12 – Lead ECG Interpretation
This program is a combination class. It can be a four (4) hour awareness and operations class, or it may be a complete eight (8) hour day class.
As the use in the field of the 12 Lead ECG Monitors become more prevalent and the importance of using these devices becomes more obvious, the EMT becomes a great tool in reducing the pre-hospital mortality of CAD. Students are taught how to obtain and interpret 12 lead ECG's. And in the eight (8) hour course students are taught further skills in recognizing specific distracters of the ECG.
There will be a 4 student minimum to run the 12 – Lead ECG Class. If there are not 4 or more students registered for the class, the students that have provided tuition will have the option of reimbursement or to be added to the next 12 – lead ECG Class.

Endo Tracheal Intubation
This four (4) session program deals with the advanced invasive airway skill of
Endo Tracheal Tube placement in both medical and trauma patients. This program
will be both informative and challenging to the student. The ETT has become a
prehospital skill that is available to the EMT-Basic as an added skill after
licensure.

ACLS Full Certification
This is a 16 hour course designed to the student the necessary skills to manage
the first 10 minutes of the ten core cases as outlined by the American Heart
Association standards. This course can be delivered in four 4 hour classes, or in two 8 hour classes.

This 8 hour class is designed to refresh the students knowledge and skills in
the 10 core cases as outlined in the American Heart Associating standards. This course can be delivered in two 4 hour sessions or as a single 8 hour class.

What do I need to bring to class?
Students need to bring with them at least, 1 pen, 1 pencil, notebook (spiral bounds are usually best). Most lectures the student will be given various amounts of hand outs that pertain to the lecture and these should be kept in a 3 ring binder for continued review during the course
